If you are familiar with Zoom, you know that you see someone’s picture if they’re setting is video, or you see their name or preset picture, if they’ve set it on audio. Usually, when it’s set on audio, it’s because you’re having a bad hair day or haven’t put on makeup and don’t want to be seen.
This is a picture of your relationship with the Lord. When you have your devotions in the morning, do you set yourself on mute, audio or video in your relationship with God. Do you want to zoom in or stay hidden in the background? It’s like playing the old game of Limbo. How far can you go? How far are you willing and able to go? How flexible are you?’ Will you let Him take you to places that stretch you? Will you make the effort? Do you believe it’s worth your time?
If there is a distance, what created the distance? How did the distance get there? As I was reading scripture this morning, I read 1 Samuel 10:19 which says, “And you have this day rejected your God, who himself saved you out of all your adversities and your tribulations; and you have said to him, No, . . .”
The Pulpit Commentary summaries it this way, “Samuel, therefore, protests unto them, “You have this day rejected your God, because what you want is a divorce of your national well-being from religion.” Nevertheless, God granted their request . . .
Scripture is a story of man drifting from God, suffering the consequences and then, in repentance, returning to Him. This is a season for repentance.
Are you at a distance from God because of the influence of ancestors that have gone before you? We have a tendency to get a family disease because of our genetics. Has the rejection of God by your family line (spiritual genetics), made it hard for you to find a true relationship the Lord?
If so, let’s remedy it.
Prayer of Repentance
Heavenly Father, I confess the sin of my ancestors and my own sin of rejecting You, refusing to accept You, believing that what You offered was not good enough, Forgive us for our ingratitude and unbelief. I forgive my ancestors for the sin and for the consequences of the sin that have come down to my family and me. I forgive myself for any way that I have participated in this sin. Lord, I ask You to forgive my ancestors and me for this sin. We have sinned against man, against You and against ourselves. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by His blood I renounce all evil that has given power to this sin. I break all evil generational ties from the beginning of time to the current generation. All that evil leave now and go to the feet of the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen!
Lord, reveal to me anything else that would hinder a relationship with You? (repent if He shows you something.)
Redeeming What was Taken
Heavenly Father, I recognize today that there is a distance (a slight sliver or wide divide) between us. I don’t feel the connection with You that I would like to feel. I know more is possible. We can never know too much about you or feel Your love too much. There is always another level. Another way we can know You.
Lord, let me hear with my inner ear, my spiritual ears, what it is that You would say to me today? I desire a relationship with You, the living and true God. I want to know You, Heavenly Father, the Lord Jesus Christ and Holy Spirit to the fullest. I choose to love You and serve You with my whole heart and a willing mind. Undivided allegiance.
Impart to me an inbirthing of faith and strength to surrender fully to You so that I might be a representative for You that would draw many to You. I ask this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth. Amen!
“As for you, my son Solomon, know the God of your father, and serve Him with a whole heart and a willing mind; for the Lord searches all hearts, and understands every intent of the thoughts. If you seek Him, He will let you find Him; but if you forsake Him, He will reject you forever.
